India started its vaccination drive on 16 January 2021, operating 3,006 vaccination centers on the onset. And since then, India has been able to vaccinate ~21cr people with at least 1st dose. Although majority of the population have been vaccinated with either Covishield or Covaxin and a few with Sputnik-V, very few of us know about what these vaccines are made up of.

So, along with what these vaccines are made up of, let’s learn about other important parameters like who produces these vaccines in India, efficacy, storage and number of doses!

What are the common side effects of COVID-19 vaccines?

Like any vaccine, COVID-19 vaccines can cause side effects which have mostly been mild to moderate and have lasted no longer than a few days. Typical side effects include pain at the injection site, fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills and diarrhoea.

What are the upcoming vaccines in India?

  1. ZyCov-Di, being developed by Ahmedabad-based Zydus-Cadila
  2. Hyderabad-based Biological E, the first Indian private vaccine company, is developing a vaccine
  3. In partnership with Seattle-based HDT Biotech Company, HGCO19, India’s first mRNA vaccine is being developed by Pune-based Gennova Biopharmaceuticals
  4. A nasal vaccine by Bharat BioTech
  5. The Sputnik V vaccine candidate being produced by Dr Reddy’s Lab and Panacea Biotech
